It is sometimes possible to reach in from the various duct openings and
remove the offending objects (leaves, carcasses, etc) without going to
the trouble of removing the whole box (which is a royal PITA). If you go
this route, rubber gloves and something like a flexible grabbing tool of
some sort usually helps. It is also important to be careful, there are
expensive things (like the AC evap) which could be damaged if you are
not careful and just start blindly yanking whatever you can hook in there.
Given the amount of time to remove the box, it is probably worth a try
cleaning it from the ducts. Especially since gaining access to the duct
openings needs to be done anyhow if you need to remove the box.
If they do remove the climate control box, I suggest scrapping off all
the glue, and using closed cell foam weather stripping to seal it when
you put it back. This will be water tight and will make taking it out
next time much easier.
