Given that not long ago Fay was trying just to keep a car running, I'm
not sure the Q7 would be the smartest buy. And given the reputation of
Audi's automatic transmissions, I'm not sure I'd want to subject one to
towing a horse trailer.

"SUV" and "sports car" do not belong in the same sentence, so may I
suggest a Chevy/Ford pick-up for towing, and an A8 that is comfortable
for lots of driving? For sportier driving, look for an S-car; but be
ready to pay the premium, both in purchase price and upkeep. An early
2000s A6 with 2.7TT twin turbo might fit the sporty driving need. Get
one with good maintenance records.
