Hardware question- throw in your choice of expletives

Ok, here is the deal.  I was removing the knee bar on the driver's side.
Upon removing it, I noticed that the clips that the bolts drive into are
worn, and or broken.  What are these friggin things called?  Why does
Audi
have to use such unusual clips?  Finally, why are they so g-d'd
FLIMSY!!!!!

Other than that... I love my B5 A4 Avant quattro
