I broke it I think..

Sounds like one of three things. Either the cable itself broke, the
mechanism where it attaches to the shifter broke, or where it attaches
to teh trans broke. I'd guess either in the shifter or the cable, but
if you have ramps the trans might be the easiest place to check.
