If the fumes have a slight sweet smell, likely coolant leaking at or on
the core. If it smells like burned beans, then you probably have an
overheating blower motor. General likely suspects, no personal BTDT with
an A4.
If the car has been sitting for a while, it's not uncommon for rodents to
nest in odd places like the heater core and surrounding ductwork, leaving
behind reminders that might smoke or stink a bit when heated.
