Dave Conner's Jointed wiper arms

I always wondered why American cars never pivoted that much.  How can one
clean the windshield if the wipers are exposed.  Or, how about replacing the
blades?  Of course, nothing beats a Mercedes with a mono wiper, now that is
engineering.  Or their wiper on top of wiper (S-Class), or Peugeot 604's.
Even the older 911 Porsche's and the VW Scirocco A1 with it's mono wiper.
