If there's gurgling, then there's air somewhere, right?  One idea:
borrow a vacuum purge/fill kit or ask a local mechanic to do it (the
longest part is draining the system.)  It pulls a vacuum in the entire
cooling system, then allows you to draw coolant in while the system is
still under vacuum.  Draining the system takes more time than anything
else.

Building your own is straightforward, but I imagine by the time you're
done with all the parts, you're close to the $100 the kit costs.
