My interior light has quit coming on when I open the driver's door. The
other doors work OK so it's only the driver's door that is affected, not the
rest of the system. I suspect a broken wire in the door jamb leading from
the door contact switch to the central locking module. This also causes the
central locking system to reactivate because it doesn't know the driver's
door has been opened. This is a bit unnerving since the car could lock me
out if I forget to remove the keys at the gas station. For some reason, I
can't find the driver's door contact switch on the 2000 wiring diagram in
the Bentley but I located it on the 1999 diagram. It shows to be a
green/yellow wire so hopefully it is the same on the 2000. Right? It
refers to some wiring harness connectors in the "connector station, A
pillar, left" so I figure the wire has to pass through there. I tried
pulling back the rubber bellows and can only expose an inch or so of the
wiring harness. I don't want to destroy the bellows so I was hoping to
access it in the A pillar and inside the door and splice in a new piece of
wire once I access the contact switch inside the door and verify that is the
problem. Before I start tearing stuff apart, does anybody know how to
access the "connector station"? Can I just remove the plastic kick panel
under the dash without destroying anything?
thanks,
Dave
