On ETKA, go to ACA/1998/881-25 and see that seat is Original Equipment.

I'm thinking these are something someone added after the fact. They
look like the seats that were available overseas. I was working at an
Audi deasership in the mid 90's when these cars were sold new, and
don't recall ever hearing of these seats being an option. I also
don't
see any mention of them in my 96, 97, or 98 Cabriolet brocures. But,
it could have been an option only to certain deaserships, I suppose.
Just like the virgin wool interiors of the V8's. But, if you look at
Cabrio's in Germany, for instance, they have this style of seats.
On a side note, we inported a complete cloth interior for a customer
for his S6 wagon (about 1996) because he had some sort of reaction to
leather. When completed the interior looked like it came that way,
complete with proper door cards and everything. So, it will look
factory to a customre now, but it wasn't, and the option sheet in the
trunk area would still show leather.
