If it's intermittent, its _not_ the pin. No pin = no start - ever! Intermittent would point towards sensors or other electrical issues.
If the pins are indeed missing, you need to find out what took them out. Otherwise it will happen again.
My WX URQ did this some years ago. Turns out it was a 10 mm oil pan bolt had gotten into the bell-housing and when all the planets aligned it would trash the pin.
You can replace the pin through the starter hole. Not easy but doable. I used a number drill size that gave a tight friction fit in the hole. Pounded it in and used an air grinder cut off wheel to cut to length.

Remove the starter and you should be able to access them. There might
e a BTDT floating around.
One question though - if it is an intermittent issue, it would lead
ore towards the RPM sensors - those go bad too. My car didnt want to
tart when it was cold, till I swapped those sensors...
