What to get next for a car?

Looks like its time to get another car as my 95 A6 with 288k on it has
overheated yet again and I am tired of working on it.

So I am wondering the pros and cons of the newer platforms. I am aiming
for something around 2004-2006.

A4 1.8T
A4 2.7/8?

A6

I liked the 95 A6 as it was reliable and wasn't too hard to work on and
there are not many failures common to that platform.  I had a 200 and
multiple 5ktqs and while I really missed the performance of the chipped
cars, I don't miss the additional maintenance the type 44 needed (window
switches, intercooler hoses, engine mounts, ect ect).

So is there something out there that has the same sort of record the C4
has with a minimal amount of problems, but is also faster and more fun
to drive?
