Nonfabric Headliner Options

I'd imagine that first off it would be pretty tacky. It's going to look especially bad unless you spend a bunch of time on prep to get the surface nice and smooth. Then you'll notice an increase in cabin noise because that padded fabric absorbs sound quite well where a painted bit of fiberboard would reflect it. 

In short, not recommended. Then again that's just one persons opinion, I may very well be entirely off base.
