CV joint - potential problem

I was replacing front outer CV joint boot on the 90Q today and, once having the CV joint in my hand, noticed dried out grease and what seemed to be some sort of debris embeded in it. So, decided to dismantle and clean everything. All went well, but once I had everything nicely apart and cleaned, I remembered vaguely that the position of all parts relative to each other should be marked before dismantling. Well, it was too late! I reassembled everything but now the joint is binding. It moves freely most of the time but then gets stuck.
How much of a problem did I create - will the parts settle in their new places of did I ruin the joint? More importantly, is there a safety issue (if, for example, it becomes stuck while driving)?
I have a set of front and rear driveshafts from a V8Q, could I possibly use a CV joint from there as a replacement on a 1988 90Q? Family Album shows the whole driveshaft as a replacement part and the numbers don't match, but perhaps the joints will?
Radek.
