One of the things that KB writeup does not include is the engine speed and
ignition timing sensor setup on all the Audi I-5 engines. These sensors
are located on the driver side of the engine at the flange where it hooks
to the clutch housing. One of them counts the teeth of the flywheel and
one reads a pin on the back of the flywheel. Their wiring goes to
connections usually on the firewall at the back of the head. The Bentley
describes a simple test you can perform at the connectors with a multimeter
to determine whether the sensors are up to snuff. At their current age,
they can be expected to be failing.

No dash lights may mean its the ignition switch. But "start" here:
