Nope! The only difference is the color of the plastic, and that is to
prevent you from swapping the connectors and resulting in a no start
condition. I'd recommend that you devise some way to differentiate the unit
that is supposed to have the other color plastic.
There's someone on the V8 list who has had some luck using an ABS sensor for
one or both of the flywheel sensors. They are all "variable reluctance"
sensors, which is different from the "Hall effect" sensor usually used on
the distributor.

Engine rpm sensor and ignition timing sensor on a 1989 200 TQ.........is
there any difference between sensors other than the color of the connector?
Both new sensors have the same checking specs.
The connectors are the same (except color). Is there any reason those two
sensors will not interchange and function correctly? When checking prices,
the rpm sensor is often nearly double the price of the
ignition timing sensor. Anything wrong with using two ignition timing
sensors rather than one of each?
My 89 Avant has started giving me problems with a no start after being
warmed up for 25-30 minutes or more. Doing the pouring on of water trick,
it fires right up.
thanks!
