Tony,
Thanks for the words of encouragement.
It's mostly a money issues for me right now.
I know what's actually wrong with it.
The A clutch pack is gone, alone that's a $300 part.
I hang out on the QuattroWorld A8 list a lot.
It all started with the normal hunt and thump issues the early A8s have with
the tranny.
Tozo ( the tranny guru ) on the QW list rebuilt, and modified the VB for me,
before it got to him some one at UPS tried to play basket ball with it and
smashed the main pressure solenoid.
Tozo sold me a used one that turned out to be defective and was over
pressuring the whole tranny, didn't know that till I put it back in and got
hard on it on the way home from my dads shop. Damage was done! Replaced the
solenoid with a new one.
Still it lasted another 10k miles before it totally gave up.
Bummer part is about 2 months before the tranny gave up, I spent $700 on all
new control arms.
It gets cranked every week though and driven a few laps around the yard in
reverse. :-)

Britt, I don't have a carfax. However, I do have a bit of advice on
the A8. Sell it to me ;-)
Seriously, a couple of guys on the list have fixed the transmissions
on A8's by replacing the filter, and in at least one case pulled and
cleaned the valve body.
HTH,
Tony
