I had a similar problem and went a slightly different route with an A4 Avant
I just picked up.

I actually purchased a NEW symphony radio on Ebay -- I figured after 10
years something was bound to break.

I paid $55.00 delivered by submitting an offer.

Search for *NEW* Audi Symphony Radio A4 99 00 01 02

The seller was an Audi Dealer out of Georgai
