'96 A6q - spongy brake pedal feel, MC or caliper?

Agreed - my Motive pressure bleeder works great.
One thing to remember is that some cars (not sure about the Audis) have vertical brake line runs that a full single pedal pump is not sufficient to push the bubble all the way down. Pressure bleeding overcomes this issue.

huh. My motive works wonders.
And is fairly idiot proof in that its hard to suck anything in when the system's
ressureized.

lines when you bled them the first time. IME audi brakes can be a pita
to bleed out. tap the calipers with a hammer to shake any bubbles
loose as you bleed. id also bleed the old fashioned way [2 ppl]. i
never got my pedal as hard with a one man bleeder [motive included].

if they get better you're on the right track. if not id guess master
 cylinder.. before caliper.
