AUDIophile! Stereo Options?

Right now I am listening to a stock 1988 90Q (the grey one) Veisenbad
head unit, with access to a Sony CD changer in the trunk (via FM).
The bass is lame and lumpy, there is no high end. Fix those via better
speakers (I know a guy who can help me out...) and then things are much
more enjoyable.
I spent two weeks on the 89 90Q (the black one), while swapping the
interior, installing a $400 Nak CD player (that had an mp3 input) for
the aesthetics, a lot of wire, and amp in the trunk, and some nice speakers.
Two weeks of labor.
But that car sounded sweet.
