i have a similar one about a year old. alpine 97seventy something or such...
6ch preouts, ipod connectivity, sub level control, etc.

it's all well and good with a cpl misgivings - the volume knob is a little
wonky - if you spin it fast [as you need to when searching the ipod] it
doesn't register. you have to spin it S L O W L Y in order to progress down
a list. VERY annoying when you're trying to get to Weezer or something. Also
the main buttons are cheapsih in feel and after a year the labels are
wearing off. Bummer as i bought this based on experience w/ my last alpine
about a decade ago that felt like it was built properly well. really solid,
robust feel to the knobs and buttons, along with great features and sound.
Not so, this new one.

The ipod integration works well enough - it does have a few glitches but
nothing heinous. i tend to leave an 8gp nano in the glove on random play
anyway.

+1 on mp3 sounding like pewp. ive been switching back to cd's and the
difference is profound [all ads speakers, 2 sets 5" separates, 12" sealed
diamond sub, elemental designs amps]
