Kent,
I replaced the manual cloth sport seats in my '01 A4 1.8t with a set of
B5 S4 leather power seats. There was some minor fabrication that had to
be done (removing the front mounting point for each seat), but it was
pretty straightforward.
I found the cloth sport seats to be rather hard and uncomfortable,
particularly as compared to the leather seats. There just doesn't seem
to be much give in the cushions. And I don't carry extra personal
padding, so I felt it. :)
The leather is hotter in the summer, but strangely, also warmer in the
winter. The cloth seats are cold, and remain that way. The leather warms
up quickly (separate from the seat heaters).
You should be able to find B5 S4 seats available pretty cheaply...I
think I paid $300 for the front seats (heated, powered, leather).
Everything, electronically, was plug and play, including the side
airbags. Microsoft could learn a lesson here. :)
Just my .02.
Lee
