Seat belt wetness

Well, this attempt to clean the rear drains was a bust. Can't access the drain
holes from above. Can't even see them.
Partially removed the rear wheel-well liner but could not find the drain. I only
partially removed the liner because it was tucked
very tightly under the wheel well lip, and I did not think I'd be able to cram
it back in there and didn't want it flopping around
and gathering more crud underneath. I cleaned out the front ones (they empty
into the front door jambs).

I'm bringing the car in to the dealer later this week to get the coolant flange
leak repaired*, and am going to have them clean the
drains. I did see a notice on-line about a class-action suit settlement on the
sunroof drains on VW's and Audis, so will see if that
gets me anything at the dealer.

*Several months ago, I posted about a coolant leak - I was able to locate it,
and it is the coolant flange (the dealer confirmed this
when I had the car in for a broken hood cable (which was another post!)).

Not sure, but you MIGHT be able to access the tube end by loosening the
trailing edge of the wheelwell liner. Otherwise, the bumper cover comes
off relatively easily. There are a couple long bolts with (I think) 8mm
Allen Head openings that go vertically from underneath. Then just pull out
on the leading edges of the cover at the wheelwells and it'll come loose.

Tom, unfortunately, to access the bottom of the drain tube, I believe you
need
to remove the bumper cover. I think I am
going to access it from above with a length of cable or wire, and see if
that
does the trick. Hopefully it does...

Dan,

I just had nearly the same thing in my '95 A6q. my C-Pillar trim had come
undone and I noticed water dripping down from the roof area, so it was a
pretty
simple diagnosis.

The drain tube on my car exits behind the rear wheel and is hidden by the
bumper cover. If yours is similar, there is a soft rubber boot at the end
of
the drain tube that "pinches" to prevent insect from climbing up the drain
tube. This is also where any dirt washed from above gets trapped.

I squeezed that pinch boot to open the drain hole and a bunch of muddy
organic
matter and water flowed through.

I followed pretty much the same cleaning procedure for my AC drain tube
earlier
this summer.
