It used to be that insurance was much more expensive for a 2 seat car.  That was what I heard from multiple people when they purchased new Porsche 944s.  Makes sense back then at least... Lack of computerization and data aggregation.

CHeck out the Oct 2010 Hemmings Sports and Exotic, you will see a pic
of the rear seats on page 34. I've also sat in one, and it had a rear
seat. And, two articles I have from when the car is new mention the
rear seats, with a comment that mirrors my own thoughts when I saw it
in person. Why did Audi even put them back there, it's not like you
could carry a passenger back there. At least, not one with legs.
