Type 44's are officially classics, or at least scarce.

There still a few here in the SF bay area. I know that Tomas in Walnut
Creek and 034 look after some and I often see type 44s around the bay. Oddly
enough, I drive to Portland, OR almost annually and invariably see what
appears to be a venerable and beat 44 wagon on I-5 up around Grants Pass.
And, the guys at Sunset Audi in Portland tell me they provide parts for 44s
on a fairly regular basis (they can find stuff for these cars, you wouldn't
believe.)
My '91 200 20 valve Avant has 313,000 miles (I bought it new just twenty
years ago) rebuilt injectors and turbo and lots of other wallet thinning
goodies, and soon will go into the shop for all new undercarriage rubber and
shocks. It outperforms, outruns, outclasses and out thrills my allroad by a
gratifying amount, and I intend to see how far it can go on the original
clutch. The 3B engine is indestructible and really hauls, so it is all
worthwhile....
