Jeff,

In my former stable was an '07 GTI. No question it felt quicker; it's
geared that way. FWD vs. AWD tends to feel faster, too...even if it's
not. My son has a chipped '04 A4q 1.8t Ultrasport (of unknown tuning
source) that takes off like a rocket, courtesy of the way it builds
torque. It might not have been able to beat the GTI in quarter, but if
not, it would have been close. And his car is pushing 120k, so the
engine can clearly handle it. There is no way his car puts out the
300hp my '07 does, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was awfully close
in off the line acceleration.

I guarantee that all of my cars, even the wife's, can move their ass in
traffic, if needed.

But a question...you talk about mashing the pedal and waiting...??
...slush boxes? All of my cars are manuals, but I would say that the
only 4 banger A4's that I have driven with autos do have some delay,
until the adaptive circuitry adjusts to your style.
