Guys, it was a question on the off-chance that someone might know
someone (German connection).... but thanks.

This person knows nothing about cars and I don't know whether her husband
does, either. She _says_ she wants her van back but it has been sitting
at the dealer for several days with no action on her part which I assumed
was lack of automotive knowledge.

Maybe I should instead interpret her lack of action as a desire for a new
car &:-).

I should know; it takes a certain amount of guts (or stupidity) to keep
owning my own '88 Quattro ...

Googling found this:

<http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VOLKSWAGEN-EUROVAN-01P-TRANSMISSION-REBUILD-KIT-1995-UP-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ180585608666QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories>

DIY. How hard could it be? :)
You may want to find a parts car to practice on first, tho.
