Audi just shuts off no warning while driving and won't

When I mentioned that the tachometer drops to zero, it was my way of saying
that the car shut off. My passenger described it as watching all the
instruments go to zero, and I just tried to be a bit more precise since of
course some of the instruments such as the speedometer would have glided to
zero, and other such as the gas level would have been unchanged. In short,
the engine cut out very abruptly.

The multi-function temperature sensor which sends signals to the temperature
gauge, has been behaving inconsistently during warm-up for a while. But it
does it rarely, and in this instance it had been working and the car was at
full operating temperature and the needle was straight up. The radiator
temperature sensor and related relays had previously been verified to give
the all the correct modes of operation (off, stage1 for AC, stage 2 for heat
or if ac high-pressure trips, stage 3 for extreme heat).
