I'll second # 3 there, that's exactly what I"ve done twice.

They covered the TB.

Dielectric, exactly as Huw said, keeps moisture/dirt out to keep corrosion
at bay.

I"ve seen exactly one cylindrical Audi/VW Bosch coil go bad. I've worked on
thousands.

This failure you had, have you checked the grounds that go to the intake
manifold. That's where the ECU gets it's ground from, I won't be surprised
if you find a broken wire there. That was a suggestion from me in an earlier
post.
