There may be pending codes.  Remove the gas cap, that should trigger a
CEL which won't interfere with any pendings.  
Scanners are really cheap these days, or get some torrent software and a
$5 OBD cable on FleaBay, or a bluetooth for about $20.

Haven't had a chance to do this, but I did decide to unplug the MAF and see what happened. The car runs 100% better - no
stumble - after doing that, so I guess the MAF is indeed the culprit - it needs more than a cleaning. So I will look to order
one and replace it.

BTW, I thought it strange that the VSC light came on when I unplugged the MAF, and shut off when I plugged it back in. Why
would that be?
