cv joint & calliper

The snap ring sits in a groove in both the CV and the axel, and prevents it from moving ( as i recall, it been years)
Sounds like your parking brake mechanism is seizing... mine were stiff, but moved with (fairly strong) manual force.
Get the repair or service manual. That' step #1.

> You must be talking rears? They can be quite stiff. Do you have the proper tool that pushes and turns at the same time? Without that tool, its often hopeless.
