90' 200 alternator flaky update

Mark, I'm impressed. Don't worry about recognition from other "normal"
people, we (the people who can appreciate a good wrenching in situ) are a
rare bunch...

That said, I had a new "Napa Gold" (new, not rebuilt) fail on me.  The
kicker was, my stock alternator was just starting to have bearing whine
around 120,000 miles.  The new alternator failed so badly after about 3,000
miles it literally locked up.  Couldn't spin in either direction and it
quickly destroyed the (also new) serpentine belt.  Never saw that one
before!  I literally changed the alternator and serpentine belt on the side
of the road with tools I happen to have in the truck.  Personally, I was
impressed... my wife sat in her car reading her Kindle.  JUST as I started
it up and closed the hood, it started to rain.  So I went over to my wife's
car and said, "so, are you impressed?"  Sadly, she said, "no, not really.
Can we go back to the boat now?"
