Most broken timing belts on 1.8Ts cause all the open valves to be bent.
Sometimes it's only the inlet valves. Occasionally there'll be piston
damage, and I've seen block damage at the lip of one or two cylinders.
If you're gonna buy one of those cars, allow for the MOST possible
damage. I usually figure on a replacement engine when I initially quote
the job. 2.0Ts are another story all together. Double whatever you
think a 1.would cost to repair! In any case, these are time intensive
repairs!
