I used to live in western MT, does that help?
Seriously, I've bought three cars long distance with little or no info about
it, and just saw a couple of pics of in online. One was my pristine 87
Saphire 4000Q(10 hrs away), which I miss a LOT!!. I bought it from John
Necessary in Colorado Springs. It got hit twice in 06, and was totalled both
times. The second time, it really was totaled!! One was the V8Q, which I
bought with 252k from John Anderson in Chicago. That is about 13hrs from
OKC, where I was living at the time. The other was the oceanic blue 4000Q
that I bought from Jeff Hoff in Duram, NC. That was about 20 hrs from OKC. I
actually bought that one for $700, drove it 8hrs to Dave C's place in DE.
Then, spent the night there, and the next morning we went to Carlisle. Then,
to Philly, where we toured, then DC, same again. Then, we (my Sis, Mom, and
me) went to Shanendoah Natn'l Park in VA, and spent a week there. Then, back
to OKC.
In each instance, I didn't have any problems with the cars. I also bought
two 4000Q's after that, but had a bit of history with each of the owners.
One was in PA, the other from Dave C in DE. Not any issue with either of
these. In fact, one of them (the car owner in PA) stated she wouldn't trust
the car on a road trip simply because of it's age. I've put over 20k
relatively trouble-free miles on it since.
Oh, and the car from Dave C, 40K later, it jsut made a 3000 mile trip from
Houston to WI, and back. I left two weeks ago, just got back a couple of
days ago.
Needless to say, I'll trust an older Audi anywhere. The only thing that
really can cause the car to die on you without warning is the fuel pump. I
replace with new(bosch) and relay it when I buy an Audi. Not before I take
the "chance" on a drive home, though ;-)
Best of luck, and enjoy your new ride!!! Can't wait to hear about it, and
maybe even see pics!
Tony
