winter fuel consumption

It makes sense to me too, Brandon. I think there is some digging going on
that exceeds the reasonable... I mean, winter running is going to be less
efficient than than warm weather, no matter what you do. Lots and lots of
variables could be and are changing, whether it is different tires,
lubricant viscosity relative to temperature, gas formulation, etc. This
discussion could easily go the way of Al Gore trying to capitalize on the
short-term statistical, however slight, upward trend of "observed" global
temperatures...

I agree colder/denser air does not affect efficiency, but because the air is
more dense you have to use more fuel to keep the mixture correct - hence
these motors making more power (more fuel and more air) at a given rpm
compared to summer (warmer temps). That's what makes sense to me anyway.

But that doesn't affect efficiency, it just makes a higher fuel/air
charge possible if the engine management can handle it.

Yup.

And that too.

Also, no-one mentioned spinning tires, which can happen by accident, or,
um, on purpose. Although, theoretically, that would still turn the
odometer...
