Torn CV Boot

I wouldn't go very long at all. Get any water in there, and you will shortly
have a bad CV joint on your hands. The boot kits aren't bad, about $20, and
the labor to change it. I'd do both the boots on that axle while it's out.
SHouldn't be much more in labor, most of it is pulling the axle itself.

The control arms, on the other hand, you can go a while with. Probably
recommended due to worn bushings. They share a little of the labot cost, but
not much. If you can afford it now, I'd do them. Otherwise, just save up and
do them later. He should be able to show you how bad they are, so you have
an idea what you are looking at.
