 Oh the comedy ;-)

One New England lister "sold" his S4 with the V8 because he started having considerable (LOTS) of Oil consumption.
Conversation is (read: speculation) the engine isn't that robust due to a design change in the cylinder wall height or the location of the rings vs earlier V8 motors.
One owner with a scope (camera that can go into the engine) saw ring wear and sold their car as their answer to the Oil consumption.

Some say its not how, but WHEN the V8 will wear & consume Oil.
Cars with synthetic and frequent oil changes seem to be higher mileage before this happens.

Unknown if your car is this type and having this issue, but something to look deeply into.

2009 and up is the current model and a B 8 chasis.
2008 S4 is the B 7
2004 & newer.seems to be the "generation" you are looking at, and was the first with the V8
The previous generation (up to 2003?)S4 with the 2.7L V6 BiTurbo is a different engine with different "needs".............."B" chassis: B5
History:
The "original" ( Ur ) S4/S6 was 1992 - 1995.5 and was a 5 cyl 20V turbo. Also a bigger "C" chassis.
The 5000 / 200 & (1991 200 20V) was the previous generation "C" body too.
