UrS4 Heater Core replacement

The OEM seal is a foam strip with peel-and-stick adhesive on both sides. It
is responsible for the death-like grip the heater box has on the firewall
when you pry it out to replace the heater core. The plenum the heater box
sits in collects rainwater, so if the seal you use doesn't seal to the box
and the plenum or fill all the gaps, you'll have water leaking into the car
around the heater box every time it rains. You also have to be able to get
the box out the next time the core needs replacing. I've used the OEM seal,
but something like Dum-Dum might work as well if the surfaces are clean
enough that it will stick to them. It would be a right PITA if you had to
pull it all out again to redo a leaking seal.

An automobile is a pretty harsh environment for anything sticky. go for the
best stuff you can find.

Temps are high in the cabin, the heater core higher still while the
evaporator will get very cold. Choose smartly.

I'll forward this tread to the list, so one can suggest a suitable product
that is not OEM.

List ?

Perfect! Thanks Louis-Alain

Might see if I can just get some generic sticky foam and put that in
instead.

Cheers

Here you go. Item 10.

Seems to be a thin foam sticky seal, that you cut to length : 1360 mm.

Message d'origine :

Hi guys,

quick favour... have my heater core out, and the procedure I'm following
lists an airbox seal:

"For re-assembly, purchase a new airbox seal, part number 431 819 225."

I assume this is the foam seal that seals the entire heater box into the
firewall, does anyone have the etka pic handy so I can confirm?

Cheers

Duncan
