What have you guys used for fuel pumps?

Some folks have reported being able to twist the pump cartridge (I think
it goes counter clockwise for extraction) by using a leather glove on
the hand. Others have used a home-made tool that was a bar with tabs
welded on to match up with a couple of the dips in the cartridge that
the "special tool" grabs to turn it.
