Audi on a budget...?

As the original S6s get older, they get, well older. If you want a
larger car, with power and mod potential, why nto look at a modern-ish,
(C5 2000-2005) A6 2.7t. It will be far newer, and has another motor
that can be modified forever - the twin turbo 2.7L v-6. Its built like
the 5-cyl cars of old, de-bored, forged, under-piston oil spray, bigger
sump, blah, blah.

Avoid the automatics if you plan to drive it hard. The MT6 is far more
durable ( and more fun). Front suspension components are - on any
modern audi - maint parts every 50-80k. Timing belts are every 75k
(ignore the owners manual) and fairly complex and time consuming. Aside
from that, they're solid.
