How far can you drive on battery alone in an '01 A8L?

Sounds like Apollo 13 :) How big was your battery?

This is the thing I experienced too. Why does it switch so hard while you're
still driving at a high speed? Last summer I had transmission wiring problems,
and while I was slowing down from ~65mph to ~55mph, the "brains" decided to
switch to limp. It was not a thump, but felt more like someone rear-ended me.
I was hoping to see parts scattered on the highway behind me, but it turned
out all ok :) IMHO, it is not only a strain on all trans components, but quite
a shock to driver.
