95 S6 computer problem

OK, my mechanic has an S6 in the shop and I'm interested in it....owner not 
happy, may sell. Mechanic hasn't been able to fix the following problem and 
would like to borrow a good working Motronic computer   part # 
4A0907551AA  to make sure he isn't dealing with a bad computer. Car won't run.

PROBLEM: 95.5 S6 computer read-out indicates inability to read the timing 
mark on the flywheel. ACTION taken so far: Replaced sensor that reads the 
timing mark.

RESULT: Computer continues to deny being able to read the timing mark.

Open to suggestions, ideas, sources.
