Wouldn't that essentially sound like the BOV's ricers love? A little
pffffffffft every time you shift. I find it quite annoying just
being near someone who is driving a car so equipped, I can't imagine
how obnoxious that would be all the time.

There's a big difference George : the ricer's BOV expels boosted air on
throttle closing, while the other setup would expel exhaust gases for as
long as the wastegate is open to prevent overboost. Each time you reach max
boost, the noise will always be there.

I drove an 1981 urQ with such a setup in 2005, and the sound was awful. If
one follows that route, he must install some kind of "muffler" on that mini
exhaust, the noise is like an exhaust leak at the manifold on an old Mercury
Villager (read : annoying).
