A4 transmission

"Notchy" is a word. Used frequently by automobile journalists, especially
the ones who write for 'Car and Driver' and 'Automobile.' I take it the
notchiness (now, is that a word?) occurs when cold? My '98 A4 Avant 2.8
does it when it is below 30 degrees in third, fourth, and fifth. When it
hits midway in operating temperature, all is well.

Subject: A4 transmission

Hi,

I'm having what may or may not be an issue with my new to me 2007 A4 Avant
2.0 T manual. The transmission feels notchy (if that's a word) when
shifting from second to third. Much more so than my Jetta (different car,
but that's my basis of comparison). Is this normal? Fluid level is fine.
Motor mounts also appear to be fine. Is this a sign of a clutch failing?
The car is Audi certified and I've only had it for two months, so I want to
get it in to the dealer if this is something I should worry about. No
grinding or anything, just a slight sticking point when switching into
third.

Thanks,

Jeff Mruss
