Isn't the B2 Passat/Quantum the same as the 5000? Therefore, I surmise that
it shouldn't be that difficult. I think this is a cool project. If the B5
wasn't so "technical," and I had the time, I would love to do this to my A4
Avant.

Subject: VW Diesel Transplant?
I'm wondering if it is possible to swap a VW turbo-diesel engine into an
Audi 5000 chassis. It occurred to me that the match of the Audi galvanized
body with a rugged all-wheel-drive system, combined with the fuel-economy of
the VW turbo-diesel could be a great match for my needs.
Is such a swap possible? Are the bolt patterns for the bell-housing the
same? What problems might I have mating the VW clutch to the Audi
transmission?
I'm sure that there would be many small details to work out, such as motor
mounts and fuel delivery, but I'm curious what the list thinks of this idea.
Disclaimer: I've owned 7 type $$ Audis, and many turbo-diesels, so I'm
familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of both. I'm currently down to
only one type 44, but have 3 turbo-diesels.
