VW Diesel Transplant?

Won't the gearing from a gas trans be a bit,, wrong,, for a diesel motor?
I've often thought of putting a TDI in my 4kcsq, but I'm thinking the gear
ratios aren't quite right, too short (is that the right term?).

A couple of things to consider. The 5000 has only the 5-cylinder
bellhousing, which is different than the 4-cyl. The 80/90Q's had both, so
you would want to use one of those transmissions, or something newer. Other
than that, motor mounts would probably be the most difficult thing to deal
with. As for the clutch, Audi offered a 4-cyl Turbo diesel in the 4000, so a
clutch for that application, with a possible disc swap would work just fine.
