This is along the lines of what I was thinking as well. Having driven
plenty of V8's in both configurations back to back, I'll have to say I much
prefer teh servotronic of the 91 and newer ones to the standard assist of
the earlier ones. That said, it's a lot of work, but if the rack is already
leaking...............

BTW, with the additional assist, Audi still used the exact same pump in all
V8 models, so the pump itself is obviously not what is limiting the assist.
