tire question

Lee,

I was running the Conti ExtremeContact DWS' on Ann's '08 A4q before I sold
it. Actually saw snow a couple of times, but not like you, obviously.
Highly rated for real snow on TireRack. Other than being somewhat
soft-walled, they were great tires. Grip in the wet is astonishing, braking
and ride are exceptional, given the performance capabiliity. Have driven on
the RE960's and think that they handle better, which for me and one of my
sporting cars is generally a top priority, but that being said, after
experience with both tires, plus the Pirelli PZeroNero M&S and All Season's,
the S6 avant will be getting the DWS's shortly. I expect that the 245/40's
will be a little bit stiffer than the 235/45's on the A4. For me, it's a
different situation. I will run a set of summer DW's for blasting around on
my other wheels. I now have DW's on the urq and the modified '07 A4q, as
well as Nick's '04 Ultrasport, but will rely on the S6 and the DWS' when the
weather turns (relatively) cold and nasty here in Houston.

Subject: tire question

Folks,

I need to throw a set of tires on my '99 A6 avant. I've been running Toyo
Proxes, 245/40/17 size, on an upgraded suspension (Bilsteins, H Sport bars,
stock springs)

I am looking for three season tires. I run dedicated winter tires on
separate rims. These tires cannot be pure summer tires, as I will run them
in the spring and fall, and they may see a flake or two in those seasons.

I'm thinking about the Bridgestone Potenza RE970 All Season. They replaced
the 960, which were pretty well regarded.

Is anybody running these tires for similar use? Does anyone have other
recommendations?

Has anyone run the equivalent Falkens, the Azenis PT722? They're not on
tirerack.com, so I don't know much about them, except that they are about
$50 less expensive per tire...

Thanks!

Lee
