Rear Muffler/Silencer for 1984 4000QS

I agree with thh aftermarket route.  It is a huge space for a  muffler.  I
think any reputable muffler shop should be able to put one  on for not much.
If you stick to local outfits (non-chains) you can probably  do it for under
$150 to 200 installed.  When I did my '85 I just bought  universal mufflers
and mandrel bends and crawled under their with a  welder.  It took half a
day, but cost me ~$300 for a 3" turbo back  including a new cat, but that 
was

I agree with the above. When my minivan needed a 3" exhaust, I made  it up 
from a free flow muffler and some "bends" from my flaps. I decided to lose  
the cat. Total was about $150.00. That was also a few years ago.
 
Don't know why a local muffler shop (chains probably won't touch it)  
couldn't make something up for a reasonable price. Keep an eye. A few years ago  
I took my '72 Charger in for a new exhaust while the rear shocks were still 
out.  They ran the exhaust pipes right through the shock mounting area.
