Does the compressor turn?  Typical approach with R134 systems is to 
evacuate then recharge, adding dye so leaks can be detected later.

If, however, the system was damaged badly in a wreck, and needs to be 
completely overhauled, that price sounds about right for a luxury German 
automobile...
