IIRC, he has these connector tools to open and splice or repair wires.

You can buy the plug terminals from Audi. They come with a piece of wire
about 1 foot in length, one terminal on either end. Just did this on a
MAC-11 wiring plug, someone had decided to cut out the "unnecessary" wires.
You will need a super small piece of hard steel (like a pick but smaller) to
release the tabs on the terminals. When you have the new ones, you will see
the tabs that have to be pushed in.
